The Dry Eye Drink Story
Every day in his Louisiana-based eye care practice, Dr. Joshua Davidson, Doctor of Optometry (OD), saw patients suffering from dry eye. In addition to other options he recommended, including the use of a moist heat eye compress and eyelid wipes, Josh asked his patients drink more water and supplement with sports drinks to hydrate, to treat from the inside out by helping to decrease the inflammation that can cause dry eye. However, after taking a closer look at the ingredient labels of popular sports drinks, he discovered high levels of sugar and sodium. Consuming sugar in excess can be a cause of inflammation in the body, according to studies published by the National Institute of Health and as reported by Medical News Today.
As the saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention”. Working with other eye care doctors, Josh decided to make his own drink for his patients, with no sugar and low in sodium. He added anti-inflammatory ingredients to help with the dryness, vitamins shown to improve eye health, and electrolytes to hyper-hydrate and get the ingredients and vitamins to work in the body.
After countless hours of work and 43 formulations, Dry Eye Drink was born. A PM version was formulated for nighttime, as better sleep is also better for your eyes.
